Teacher(Maddukuri Ashok) with a Different Mission

Teacher's tributes to scientists
Science teacher M. Ashok showing around the scientist corridor' at Chilakaluripet.
A teacher has given shape to his enthusiasm for science by erecting statues of scientists on his estate. Maddukuri Ashok, who teaches physical sciences at Zilla Parishad High School at Yallamanda, has put up statues of 19 eminent scientists in what calls a “scientist corridor.”
“The statues of Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, Madam Curie and Sarvepalli Radhakrishanan, etc, made of fibre glass have been put up in a row amidst green fields by this ardent enthusiast of science. A plaque carrying their names and the distinction they achieved is installed on the pedestal. Each bust-size image is erected on a granite pedestal and Mr. Ashok is now laying a BT road so that students can visit the place.
“I do not believe in God or religion. Science is life and the scientists, who have made our lives better, comfortable and healthy should be revered,” Mr. Ashok says. His keen interest in science prompted him to make fibre glass bust portraits and distribute them free to government schools. In 2004, he organised a procession of statues in Vijayawada and Hyderabad, catching the attention of the public. He published calendars and posters with details of important scientific discoveries in the last few centuries. “I suffered monetary losses when I stretch my enthusiasm a bit too far. The rising cost of production has made my job difficult. But I could resume my interest after my real estate business picked up,” Mr. Ashok says.
Having set up the Maddukuri Foundation recently, Mr. Ashok is planning to set up a mini theatre to screen short films about the lives of scientists and origin of man.

Diwali Celebrations at Modern's Stellar School

Modern Stellar School Students celebrated the festival of Diwali by organising inter-house exhibition of Diwali handicrafts, which were prepared by the students themselves.
The items prepared by students included different types of candles, diyas and pooja thalis which were very colourful and decorated with ribbons, sparkles, beads, shells, stars, mirrors, glitters etc. Candles displayed were of varying shapes and sizes — ranging from small diya shaped to floral, floating, minar shaped, dome shaped and some were even decorated with bows and frills made of wax.
Every “house” displayed their items in a very innovative way - decorating it with colourful dupattas, pictures of gods and goddesses and making various designs of Rangoli ranging from geometrical to floral patterns. The whole display was overwhelming. There was a stall put up by the primary section of the school, which had candles made in the shape of comic characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Tin-Tin, Shin Chan, Spiderman, Superman and Batman.
The management of the school including the director, CH.Mahesh garu & CH.Mastanrao garu,  appreciated this endeavour of the students and encouraged them to celebrate every festival with the same spirit and enthusiasm. “Through this exhibition, students tried to convey in their small way and taught us how this pious festival can be celebrated in other way than by just burning crackers and polluting the environment, “ said principal B.Vijaya Lakshmi Prasuna.

Green day Celebrations at Modern E.M School (Pandaripuram Campus)

Parents, pupils and teachers celebrated ecological and green living yesterday evening, at the school’s "Green Day" organised by Art teacher Haritha. The event highlighted the work the school has been doing this year in support of the environment. The Primary School is trying hard this year to advance programmes supporting a clean and safe environment for the children and the world. Their work was presented in a very visual way through exhibits that were placed on display for parents to enjoy. These had themes from personal hygiene (dental care) to road safety, to the importance of looking after the environment at large.
All the exhibits were made from recycled materials. But the exhibition was just a small part of the afternoon program. The students and parents split up into class groups and did activities with teachers. Among these were "weaving peace" - projects done on home-made hand-looms, a quiz about the environment, producing clocks, mobiles, and other interesting things from thrown-away materials. Using old shoes as plant pots and orphaned socks to make colourful centipedes. This being the Middle-East, a pot-luck meal brought by parents was also an important part of the afternoon - with care not to pollute the environment with throw-away plastic cups!
